Pathways to Healing

From Despair to Hope:
Experience the Ripple Effect

Explore our approach to assessing patient progress on suicidal thoughts and self-harm, informed by our 2024 Clinical Outcomes Report.

The Importance of Being Seen and Heard

Some of our clients arrive at Ripple Ranch unsure if life is worth living. However, by the time they leave, most no longer feel that way.

When someone struggles with suicidal thoughts or self-harm, recovery can feel impossible. That’s why we meet clients where they are in that darkness—not with platitudes, but with a plan.

We don’t just treat symptoms. We build safety, trust, and we help clients shift from surviving to truly living.

In 2024, we continued to track the most severe mental health symptoms clients faced and the outcomes that followed. The numbers are powerful. But, more importantly, they reflect real lives transformed.

Suicidal Ideation at Ripple Ranch: Before Treatment

Before treatment started, the following percentages reported that:

  • 9% had recently prepared, started, or attempted suicide
  • 12% intended to carry out a suicide plan
  • 14% had worked out the details of a plan
  • 16% had thoughts of suicide with intention to act
  • 23% had thought about how they might carry it out
  • 30% had general thoughts of killing themselves
  • 48% wished they were dead or could go to sleep and not wake up

Suicidal Ideation After Treatment

However, after treatment ended in 2024, individuals reported the following:

  • 0% still intended, prepared for, or attempted suicide
  • 1% had worked out a plan
  • 1% still had intent
  • 2% thought about how to do it
  • 4% had general thoughts of suicide
  • 10% still wished they were dead

What begins as a crisis often becomes a turning point, and these numbers show just how often that happens here.

How Do We Create This Kind of Change?

We know suicidal ideation isn’t just a symptom, it’s a signal – a signal of pain that’s often gone unseen or unsupported for far too long.

That’s why our approach includes:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to disrupt the loops that feed hopelessness.
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to build emotional regulation and crisis tolerance.
  • Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) when symptoms of depression or anxiety make healing harder.
  • Mindfulness and hiking therapy, so clients can reconnect to themselves through movement, reflection, and nature.
  • Group support and family work to rebuild trust and reduce isolation.

It’s in our ethos to create long-term tools for stability, self-worth, and the ability to reach out before spiraling.

If you or someone you know is battling suicidal thoughts or self-harm, please know that you are not alone.

What Changed from 2023 to 2024?

Screenshot 2025 05 02 123420

We saw improvement year over year in several key areas, even though we’re still treating clients with serious emotional struggles.

Some improvements include:

  • “Thoughts of killing themselves” dropped from 6% to 4%
  • “Wishing they were dead or wouldn’t wake up” dropped from 12% to 10%
  • All other categories (suicide planning, intent, attempts) remained consistently low at 0-2% post-treatment

These outcomes reflect more than clinical success – they show stability, emotional healing, and the return of hope.

But let’s be clear: the goal is always 0%. And while we know that’s difficult, we show up every day to work toward it. Because every percentage point represents a life, a story, and a chance to rewrite the ending.
